Making Books Sing is seeking two part-time interns for Fall 2012. These internships are ideal for emerging arts leaders looking to work in a dynamic, collaborative office while gaining experience in non-profit management.

Artistic/Development Intern

The Artistic/Development Intern will divide their time between supporting both the Artistic and Development Departments. This position is great experience for someone looking to learn about how fundraising and theater producing intersect.

Duties and Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

-Aiding the Associate Artistic Director and artistic team with the preparation and production of our fall show Louis Armstrong: Jazz Ambassador and accompanying evening events, playing off-Broadway November 2012
-Researching possible source material for future Making Books Sing productions
-Coverage of other shows and events for young audiences in NYC
-Assisting the Development Director in annual fundraising campaigns
-Managing Making Books Sing’s social media presence
-Supporting the maintenance and evolution of the Making Books Sing website
-Providing administrative support to the office
-Demonstrating a positive attitude and strong dedication at the office and at Making Books Sing events

Government Affairs Intern

The Government Affairs Intern will support the Development Director and Executive Director in maintaining relationships with government officials and organizations. This position is great experience for someone looking to learn about government arts funding from the perspective of an arts organization.

Duties and Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

-Scheduling pitch meetings with local and state government officials
-Preparing materials for and accompanying the Executive Director to pitch meetings
-Keeping City Councilmembers informed about our specific programming accomplishments in their respective districts
-Maintaining a database of local and state government officials and their funding cycles
-Completing quarterly and annual reports about how the company has allocated its government funding
-Providing administrative support to the office
-Demonstrating a positive attitude and strong dedication at the office and at Making Books Sing events

Qualifications

-Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
-Proactive, detail-oriented, able to work independently
-Knowledge of PatronManager or other CRM program a plus

Unpaid, college credit available. Two days a week through December 2012. Start by Sept 10th.
